The Rainbow Foundation is delighted to announce that both its Penley and Marchwiel hubs have been awarded the highest possible 5-star food hygiene rating by local environmental health officers. This recognition highlights the charity’s dedication to maintaining the highest standards in food safety, cleanliness, and care.
The announcement comes at a particularly exciting time for the Foundation, as thanks to Shared Prosperity Funding, the charity has been able to upgrade its facilities at both locations, including the installation of a brand-new, commercial-standard kitchen at Penley. This upgrade enhances the hub’s ability to prepare and serve high-quality meals to the community, ensuring that every dish meets the highest standards of nutritional value, cleanliness and safety.

Food is at the heart of many of the Foundation’s services. Its popular Rainbow Meals programme delivers fresh, nutritious, and affordable meals directly to older adults across Maelor South and surrounding areas. The service not only helps combat food poverty and malnutrition but also provides a vital connection to the community, helping to reduce isolation and promote independence.
In addition to Rainbow Meals, the Foundation provides daily meals for its Day Opportunities service, which fosters meaningful social contact in a safe environment. Freshly prepared meals ensure clients receive the nourishment they need to thrive while benefiting from the emotional and cognitive advantages of communal dining. This is particularly beneficial for individuals living with dementia as social eating helps stimulate memories, improve mood, and establish routine while enhancing overall wellbeing.
“Our team works incredibly hard to ensure that every meal we serve is healthy, nutritious and tastes delicious,” says Ian Pope, Director of Operations for the Rainbow Foundation. “Receiving 5-star ratings at both hubs is a fantastic endorsement of that effort.”
In addition to its Rainbow Meals and Day Opportunities services, the Foundation also runs Lunch Clubs at both hubs, offering a welcoming space for people to come together, enjoy a hot meal, and build friendships. These clubs are a cornerstone of the charity’s mission to foster community spirit and support wellbeing at every age.
The Rainbow Foundation is currently seeking volunteers to help deliver Rainbow Meals and support the service. Volunteering is a rewarding way to give back to the community, make meaningful connections, and play a part in improving the lives of older adults. If you have a few hours to spare and would like to get involved, the Foundation would love to hear from you.
